Plain-English guide
How to read SMP before and after photos
SMP photos are useful, but only if you know what you are looking at. Fresh work can look darker than the healed result, so do not judge from one dramatic photo.
Look for healed photos
A healed SMP result tells you more than a same-day photo. The dots should soften, the hairline should look natural, and the color should match the client’s real hair and skin tone.
Ask to see photos taken in normal light. Flash, filters, and heavy contrast can make any result look cleaner than it is.
Compare cases that look like yours
A crown fill is different from a new hairline. Diffuse thinning is different from a shaved-head look. Try to compare your case with a similar pattern before deciding what result is realistic.
- Same hair color or close to it.
- Similar skin tone.
- Similar hair loss pattern.
- Photos after healing, not only right after treatment.
What a natural result should avoid
The biggest red flags are a hairline that is too sharp, density that is too dark, or a result that only looks good from one angle. Natural SMP should be quiet. People should notice you look better, not guess what procedure you had.
If you want help choosing the right next step, start with a short consult and bring one clear photo of the look you want.
